When traveling to Myanmar, tourists are really impressed by the bustle of Bogyoke Market in Yangon, Myanmar.The original name of Bogyoke Market is Scott’s Market which was built in 1926 and located on Bogyoke Aung San Road in the centre of Yangon. It was renamed after Burmese independence in 1948. This market is really symbol of Yangon's trading. It attracts a large number of travelers every year and become the primary market for the Myanmar people living in and nearby Yangon.

Once travelers discover Boygyoke Market, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the various goods such as souvenirs, clothes, food, medicine, jewelry, and so on. Moreover, it is well- known black market for changing money and gems. There are 1,641 shops selling items, including 4 areas, each of that has separate functions. At the first and the ground floor, travels who enthuse antiques can easily find shops selling old coins, bank-notes, postage stamps and medals. If you are good at bargaining and evaluating antique, you can totally buy good items at a bargain price. The second floor is the place of jewelers – the most common item in here, selling famous Burmese jade, Burmese rubies and other precious stones. This is really an ideal destination to purchase souvenirs for the beloved woman. The third area concentrates on art gallery, handicraft shops, restaurants and clothes stores. The crafts are varied and of high quality. Finally, a new wing has been supplemented in 1990 supplying items of daily living such as medicine, foodstuffs, garments and foreign goods.

Shopping in Boygyoke Market, you should remember some notes here, the Burmese doesn’t spend a lot of time to bargain. They even accept the price quickly with a friendly smile. Therefore, travelers can freely bargain to get a best price. By contrast, food court in the centre of the market is quite expensive and cannot bargain. Tourists should buy food before going to the market.

Especially, if visit Boygyoke Market on the early April every year, tourists will have chance to enjoy Event Bogyoke Aung San Market – a well-known Market's water festival. In this occasion, the market is more colorful decorated. Man, women and children all over the city get nice dressed and come to the market. The shops organize many promotions and give food to customers such as Monte Lone Yay Paw, Thargu and Shwe Yin Aye as a nice tradition.
