Welcome to Yangon, the former capital city of Myanmar. Before boarding the “71 up” train for the comfortable 5-6 hour journey to Pyay, we spend the morning exploring the highlights of the city. You can easily see that Yangon’s infrastructure is undeveloped compared to those of other major cities in Southeast Asia, but it has the largest number of colonial buildings in the region today. Besides, tourists will be fascinated by the lush green park, picturesque lakes, and the charming people.
Stay overnight in Pyay.
After breakfast at hotel, we start our first day of riding in Pyay. Located on the Ayeyarwady River, Pyay is home to more than gilded pagodas, especially the Shwesandaw Pagoda. Also, about a kilometer and a half from the highway turnoff by the old palace side stands a small museum and a map of the area. Inside the museum is a collection of artifacts collected from Srikshetra exacavations. Besides, we will take a visit to the local markets where sell cotton and silk, the famous product of the Burmese.
Stay overnight in Pyay.
Today, we start by the morning ride along flat roads and pass through scenic villages on the way to Magway. Then we ship into a car at near Thit Yar Kaut Village and start a half day of exploring this charming riverside town. Besides, you can refresh your body and mind at the Irrawaddy River for tomorrow’s challenging ride.
Stay overnight in Magway.
After a deep sleep at hotel, we are ready for a 90 kilometer ride to Mt.Popa , Myanmar’s most famous nat shrine. Almost 5000 feet high with 777 steps leading to the top, it is a fantastic trip into the heart and soul of this ultra religious country and region. Let’s soak your body in the cool water swimming pool at the beautiful Mount Popa Mountain Resort. Also, enjoy the views of surrounding plains.
Stay overnight at Mt. Popa.
On the way back to Bagan, we will take visits to villages. In the morning, it would be interesting if we joined the locals with a walk to the top of Mount Popa. Here, we can observe the unusual spirit worship of the nats. We also stop at another local village to enjoy lunch. Arrive in Bagan and check in hotel.
